Each building at Indiana University has a Building Emergency Action Plan (BEAP). This document includes emergency procedure guidance, activities for preparing for emergencies, and roles and responsibilities of building occupants for a specific building.
Each building has an assigned Building Safety Chair. This person is responsible for the annual review and maintenance of the plan. They are also responsible for distributing the plan to building occupants and visitors. The plan also has information regarding evacuation routes and rally points, severe weather shelter sites, and the location of Automated External Defibrillator (AED), NOAA All-Hazards Radios and first aid kits.
We encourage you to be familiar with the BEAP for the building you work, live,or study in. It’s important to take the time to walk the building so that you are able to find the first aid kit or AED rapidly when they are needed.
The BEAP is a requirement of both OSHA, 1910.38: Emergency Action Plans, and the Indiana Fire Code, Chapter 4: Emergency Planning and Preparedness. This requirement applies to all facilities where IU employees are assigned; however, each BEAP is designed specifically for building occupants, including faculty, staff, and students.
IU Emergency Management & Continuity will make plans available to the IU community to review and plan for emergencies.
A searchable database for all BEAPs is currently under development.
